A project is a place for work that belongs together. Chats you start in a project, the reference files you add to it, and its own memories all live on the project’s page. A chat that is not in a project is a Personal chat.

Create a project and start a chat in it

  1. Choose New project: from the plus beside Projects in the left rail, or the New project link on the start screen.
  2. Open the project from the rail or the Projects page.
  3. Choose New chat on the project’s page, or “New chat in project” in its row menu in the rail. The chat belongs to that project and shows its name at the top.

A chat you start from the start screen is a Personal chat, not part of a project.

Shared reference files

Attach a file to a project once and every chat and Work task in that project can read it. The formats and size limits are the same as for a chat attachment (see Files and attachments).

  • Project files can be searched from the project’s own chats and tasks, and nowhere else: not from another project and not from a Personal chat.
  • They are visible in the project to members of the project’s workspace.
  • The person who added a file can remove it. A removed file is not used or searched until it is restored, within the retention window.
  • An archived project keeps its existing files readable, but you must restore it before adding more.

Memory in a project

The project’s page has its own Memory section: the project’s memories, each with its source, which you can add, correct or delete. Your personal memories are used in a project’s chats only if you tick “Use my personal memory in this project’s chats” on that page. On a server that does not support the setting yet, the page says so.

Asking Crossbox to remember something is saved automatically only in a Personal chat. See Memory and privacy.

Rename, edit and archive

  • A project’s menu can offer Rename, Edit description and Archive. Which actions appear depends on what you are allowed to do.
  • Archiving a project keeps its chats; you can bring the project back with Restore, after choosing Show archived on the Projects page.
  • You cannot start a new chat in an archived project until it is restored.
