Memory and privacy

Ask Crossbox to remember something, see when it did, and review, correct or delete what it kept.

Crossbox keeps a memory only when your message clearly asks it to. It does not save things from your conversations on its own. What it has kept is listed in Settings, where you can open its source, correct it or delete it.

Ask it to remember

Say so in your message. These forms are recognised:

  • “Remember that I prefer short answers.”
  • “Remember: my team works in UTC.”
  • “Please remember that …”, “Note that …”, or “Don’t forget that …”
  • “Remember exactly: …” keeps your wording as you wrote it, instead of a short summary.

A request that is a task rather than a fact, such as “Remember to call Sam”, is not saved as a memory, and a question is not a request.

How you know it was saved

When a memory has been saved and confirmed, a short line under your message reads “Saved to memory”, with a link to see it in Memory. That line appears only after the save is confirmed.

When nothing is saved

  • Automatic memory applies to Personal chats (chats that are not in a project).
  • If memory is switched off for the conversation, nothing is saved.
  • Text that looks sensitive is not saved: credentials and secrets, government or payment identifiers, and health or financial details.
  • A statement that is too long is not saved.
  • If you delete a memory, it is not saved again from the same message. Sending or reloading the same message never saves it twice.
  • In these cases Crossbox shows no “Saved to memory” line.

Review what it kept

  1. Open Settings, then Memory.
  2. Each memory shows where it came from. Open its source to go to the message it was saved from.
  3. Edit a memory to correct it, or delete it. Deleting asks you to confirm, and a deleted memory is never used again.
  4. Download my memory saves everything you have kept as a file.

You can also add a memory by hand in Settings. A memory stays until you delete it; there is no automatic expiry.

When a memory is used

When an answer used saved memories, a single line under it says how many, and lists them. An answer that used none shows nothing. In a project, your personal memories are used only if you turn on “Use my personal memory in this project’s chats” for that project.

How data is handled in general is described on the Trust page.
